Generali Candidate Journey Contest

Service design for a historic insurance firm
About the project

In 2019 I took part in the Candidate Journey Contest, an innovative Employer Branding challenge launched by the insurance firm Generali and addressed to young people in the 18-30 age group.

The challenge was to conceive and design a new talent acquisition experience for the company’s potential jobseekers, by exploiting the resources of the digital environment.

My team's project was voted among the Top 10 out of 53 participants by the Scientific Committee in the intermediate ranking.

Research

After submitting questionnaires and carrying out some interviews with young people in the 18-30 age group, we identified some discrepancies between what the jobseekers would like and what the Company currently offers.

Our conclusions led us to devise an innovative platform that can be used both from Desktop and from smartphone devices through a dedicated App.

Step 1

The initial phase of this process - lasting a total of about 40 minutes - requires the candidates to create an account on the platform, accessing it through their email or authenticating from his/her LinkedIn account.

Subsequently, they are asked to upload their CV, so that the specially programmed system can extract the main data for profiling purposes (personal information, course of study and work experience).

Step 2

From this moment the main part of the candidate's "journey" begins. The first presented activity is a personality test that is divided into a system of scoring questions.

Based on the final result, the candidate will be assigned one of the 12 Archetypes of Personality, that is a series of symbolic characters (Magician, Explorer, Common Man, to name a few) associated with different behavior models that conform specific ways of being – those aspects, namely, which in the workplace contribute to define the so-called soft skills.

Each archetype is identified by a specific character who contributed to making the history of Generali.

Step 3

In the next phase, the candidates embark on a "journey" that will lead them to learn about a specific episode in the history of the Company. During a "point and click" business game they will be asked to make choices and make strategic decisions that will help the system determine the results of the final phase.

Step 4

Once the business game is complete, the platform will show the candidates a shortlist of the most suitable job positions for them, which have been identified through a system that cross-references different compatibility criteria.

This system consists of an algorithm that assigns a different weighted score based on:

– the information extracted from the CV (study and work experiences, languages and technical skills)

– the candidate's areas of interest

– the personality attributes associated with the Archetype resulting from the first test

– the results of the business game.

At this point the candidates will be able to apply for the job offers they prefers among those suggested, which could also include those positions for which they would not have imagined being compatible.

The compatibility index is indicated as a percentage, in a range starting from a minimum of 60%. If the candidates obtain a low compatibility index in a specific position, they will be given the opportunity to improve the skills required by integrating the training modules provided by Generali through its existing e-learning platform. Candidates who decide to complete these courses will get an increase in their compatibility index and a certificate that will be saved in their profile.

Personal Area

The candidates will also have a personal area where they can:

– view and update their personal information and skills

– view the updated job offers that the system identifies for them

– monitor the progress of their ongoing applications

– read the qualitative feedback left by recruiters on the outcome of an application or interview.

They will also have the opportunity to repeat the Candidate Journey at any time, thus adapting it from time to time to the evolution of their personality and professional experiences.

Keep in Touch

Once the course has been completed, the candidate can also enable a function that will allow them to receive notifications in real time on new compatible job offers and on the events organized by the Generali Group that may be of interest to them.
